Fused Silica

Amosil is a form of colourless fused silica which is produced from highly pure quartz. The method involves an electric arc synthesis followed by an iron free grinding process. The particles are translucent and have a tight size distribution and the size can be as low as one micron and as large as a few millimetres.

Features


    • Extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion – low CLTE

    • Good resistance to thermal shock

    • Chemically inert

    • Transparent to UV

    • Good hardness

Benefits


    • Addition of Amosil to thermosets will improve electrical insulation especially where large variations of temperature are to be experienced. A range of 20’C to 300’C is typical

    • Easily coloured and blends with other minerals.

    • Electronics, especially electrical insulation housings for lens and mirrors

    • Casting resins for coloured kitchen worktops etc

    • UV cured PU/acrylate lacquers
